Clogged gutters can result in poor drainage, sending water everywhere you don’t want it go, and none of the places you do. Having rain spill down right over your front door as you’re walking outside to go to work is going to ruin your day, but that’s actually the least of your worries if you have a serious gutter clog. Below are four major issues you might have to deal with if your clogged gutters are left untreated.

Foundation Damage – The primary purpose of a gutter system is to direct rain water off of the roof and away from your house’s foundation. A clog can cause rain water to spill over the sides of the gutter and collect near the foundation. Eventually the water can cause cracks to develop, damaging the foundation and potentially causing a collapse. Even without a full structural collapse, the cracks can lead to leaks, flooding, and mold growth.

Wood Damage – The front facing boards that support gutters are typically made of wood. When a blockage occurs, and the gutters over flow, the boards get wet, and will eventually deteriorate and rot. This problem is an even bigger issue for homes with wood siding, and there may be rot the whole way down to the grown if the problem isn’t caught soon enough.

Landscape Damage – Landscaping that is directly under, or very near by walls with clogged gutters will have heavy amounts of water dumped on them from 10 feet up, or higher if you live in a multi-story home. This will not only cause damage due to the pools of water drowning the root systems, but may also erode the soil or damage delicate plants from the force of the water falling so far.

Ice Dams – Gutters in colder climates have the potential risk of having pools of un-drained water freeze, prevent any liquid water from passing and draining properly. While this is a very small risk even in clean gutters, it’s greatly exacerbated when leaves and debris are present, created bigger pools of un-drained water to potentially freeze when winter comes.

Each and every one of these issues can be prevented by keeping your gutters clean, and there’s no better product on the market to do that than Gutter Glove.
