Here are just a few of the things that we consider when hanging drywall:

  • GWB Size. Gypsum Wall Board size matters. In many cases we’ll use 5/8” board as it is stiffer. If a home isn’t framed 100% perfectly it will assist in hiding these imperfections as well. Improperly installed drywall shows itself after it is painted and interior lighting is installed, and that is not the time you want to discover drywall problems.
  • Lighting. If the wall getting drywall hanging is reflecting natural light, you will see every imperfection in the drywall. In some instances we need to do a full mud coating and sand the entire wall. This is something that needs to be considered prior to your drywall repair or installation.
  • Door installation. If we are replacing the doors or door framing in your home- this comes in to consideration when drywall is being hung. Does the door jamb need to go on first or last?
  • Drywall around windows. When we are hanging drywall around windows, the type of window needs to be taken into consideration. Certain materials, such as aluminum, expand during the hot North Carolina summers. Where the drywall is placed, what type of caulk is used, etc are variables which we look at during the installation.
  • Where the drywall meets the floor. A company that is experienced in drywall hanging can tell you that this is an important detail which is often overlooked. Is the floor down? Is there just subflooring? If so, what type of flooring is going to be installed? What type of base will be used at the bottom of the wall?
  • Drywall dust. Professionally installed is cleaned properly afterwards. Drywall dust will be everywhere, including on the wall. You do not want to paint over this dust. We have seen the results of this, and they are not pretty.
  • Covering A/C vents and heater ducts. Again, installing drywall is a very dusty job. The last thing you want is that dust being distributed throughout the entire home.
  • These are just a few of the things that must be considered when getting a drywall hanging installation. To see what other home improvements we offer visit our home improvement page. We have installed drywall all around Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Apex, Garner and Chapel Hill.
