A home’s exterior paint is very important to any homeowner. If you are looking to revitalize the exterior of your home or give it some curb appeal a fresh coat of paint will work wonders. Exterior paint types:
The type of exterior paint we use will depend on what type of surfaces we are painting. Are the exterior surfaces wood? Are there previous coats of oil based paints? Is bare wood, metal, or cement being painted? We often use Sherwin Williams or other high quality exterior paints. Some people may prefer one brand over the next and we are happy to use the paint our customers prefer. We can assist you in choosing your paint type. Oil based paints have great surface penetration, adhesion, and dry to a smooth finish. Water based paints such as acrylic or latex have a better gloss and color retention, and low VOC. A good exterior paint will withstand the North Carolina sun and heat.
Exterior paints come in a variety of finishes as well. Matte finishes hide imperfections but are more difficult to clean. Glossy finishes are durable and easy to clean but accentuate imperfections. Satin is slightly glossy and in the middle. Preparation
Before exterior painting begins we will prepare the surface. Even the best quality paint will not stick to the surface correctly if it is not properly prepared. Bare wood and certain other bare surfaces need to be primed prior to painting. Just like exterior paint, primer comes in a variety of types which must match up correctly.
