Unprotected gutters are fantastic at collecting pine needles. So how do you keep them out? Will gutter guards keep pine needles out of the gutters?

Can gutter guards keep pine needles out of gutters?

Here in North Carolina we have seen a bit of everything. There is a big difference between the “guards” sold at big box stores and the guards offered by Gutterglove. The problem with pine needles is that they are, well, needles. They find their way into nearly everything. Cheap gutter guards have large holes that allow small debris, sediment, and pine needles in. Why is Gutterglove different?

Gutter guards vs pine needles

Gutterglove’s stainless steel micro-mesh solution keeps pine needles, debris and sediment out of the gutters. Pine needles can not penetrate the stainless steel micro-mesh. Why is this? The holes in the steel mesh are simply too small for pine needles to fit through.

Store bought gutter guards have large holes in them. They also collapse. These seem to be a pine needle magnet!

Foam insert gutter guards are supposed to keep leaves out and water in. But do they work? They are no match for pine needles. You can see a full review of a foam insert system we just removed for someone. They replaced this with Gutterglove.

reverse curve

Reverse curve gutter guards are another system that we have replaced. Read more here about reverse curve gutter guards. When they are working as intended, water rolls around these guards and into the gutter, and debris falls off. As you can see in the link above or in this image, that is not always the case.

What is the point of having a gutter guard if pine needles get in and the gutters need cleaning twice a year?
