Thankfully we’ve come a long way since those days. Sewage is now underground and street gutters steer water gracefully off to a storm drain. We don’t spend much time in gutters anymore.
Most often when we do think of our faces in gutters today, we are thinking of our noses near our roofs and our hands digging out the compost that has developed as leaves, pine needles and other materials have sat and begun to decompose.
