Interior painting tips:
Paint types. Every paint type has an advantage or disadvantage to it. High gloss paints are easy to clean, flat pains hide imperfections, sometimes something in the middle is needed. You can research this online yourself, consult with a pro, or look for advice at the store where you are purchasing your paint.
Surface preparation. Before painting you will need to properly prepare the surface. This is vital. Fill, scrape, and sand every hole, bump, dent, or imperfection in the wall that you can find. Putting a thick layer of paint on will not help hide imperfections. Contact us if you need drywall repair.
Priming. If you are painting a brand new wall or painting over a dark color you will need to prime before you paint. Priming not only prevents stains and offers some thick coverage, it improves paint adhesion. A pro tip is to tint your primer. This can be done by adding a small amount of your paint color to the primer. Beware paint that claims it contains primer.
Tools. Dropcloths and rollers aside, an extension pole is worth its weight in gold! This will save you time, save your back, and makes applying paint a little easier. Also consider a “paint grid”. We use these occasionally. Sometimes they are significantly better than a paint tray.
